Impression: A tumbler of medium size with a low stance (horizontal), always clean legged. Its main characteristic is the white band tail.

Head: The forehead is high and pretty steep, back is well rounded, flat top.

Eyes: Dark or "bull", big and expressive.

Cere: White, smooth, and rather broad.

Beak: Flesh color in yellow, slightly darker in reds, medium short, thick and slightly down-faced.

Legs: Short, coral red, and unfeathered below the hocks.

FAULTS IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE:

1. Wing shield colored.
2. Head marking (also bib too deep).
3. Tail marking.
4. White tail support feathers.
One or both eyes pearl.
 

Colors: Red (all shades), yellow.

Tail: Broad (12 to 16 feathers) same color as body -- not faded, with a clear white band.

Markings: The cheeks, bib (small) under the beak, belly, thighs, and wings (shield and flights) are white, the white cheeks extends around the eyes, the band on the tail is to be clear white and sharply marked,the support feathem of the tail to be same color as tail/body feathers.

Crest: Plain, peak, or shell crested (shell crest does not end in rosettes).

Preferences in Order of Importance:

1. Markings
2. Overall Impression/Style or Bird
Note: Young birds may not carry their wings low.

White Flighted Variety: All characteristics are the same on the white flighted Startail with the exception that the wing shield is the same color as the body and the belly is colored, a little white around vent area is allowed, head and tail markings remain the same.
