Origin: Central Asia, east of the Caspian Sea, in Russian and Persian Turkestan (ancient Khwaresmia). Brought to this country in the 1890's and early 1900's by immigrants from the German settlements along the Volga River, who had acquired them from Tatar and Turkman merchants.

Overall Appearance: Medium small tumbler; drooping wings; heavy bone; medium short beak; broad, soft feathers; slightly elevated tail.

Head: Round, full faced, showing a sharp break with the beak. Pearl eye in all specimens except white and heavy splashes, which may have bull eyes. Eye cere to be fine in texture but to show a very pronounced double or even triple ring, and to be pale flesh colored in all specimens. Clean headed or shell crested; crest full with rosettes, top of crest to extend slightly above the top of the skull. Head of either crested or plainheaded birds should be very similar to that of a good medium faced Helmet.

Beak: Medium short, blunt, broad at base, flesh colored light colored birds, horn colored permissible in blacks, blues, and other dark hued birds, but clear beak preferred.

Neck and Throat: To be full and thick.

Feathering: Feathers to be broad, soft, smooth fitting.

DISQUALIFICATIONS:

Presence of oil gland.
Discolored eye ceres.
Completely black or completely discolored beak. 
Eye any color but pearl or bull.
Fewer than 14 tail feathers.
Wry crest.
Feathers on shanks or feet.

LESSER FAULTS:

Pinched face.
Thin throat.
Narrow tail feathers.
Lack of luster.

Tail: Carried at a slight elevation above the horizontal, approximately 20 to 30 degrees, and to consist of 14 to 16 broad, long feathers. End of tail to be as broad as the shoulders.

Body: Short and blocky. Appearance of length should come from length of flight and tail feathers. Oil gland absent. Shoulders broad and square.

Legs: Clean legged. Short shanked, heavy boned, short toed.

Color: All normal colors and their dilutes in selfs, white flights, and mottles; also bred are almond, kite, brown, andalusian, reduced, larked, t-pattern blues, ash red in various patterns, baldhead marked and ancient marked. Smoky colored in blue and silver bars (as in English Carriers and Oriental Rollers) is considered a breed characteristic and not to be discriminated against.

Order of Judging: Overall appearance, balance, and station - Head, crest (if present), and beak - Tail (length and breadth of feathers, number of feathers, angle of carriage - Body and overall show condition - Color and markings.
